Intentional experimentation is an important part of my process. Experimenting with materials and techniques allows an artist to uncover a path to their original intention. The beauty is that you can discover many things along the way to your goal. This remains a big part of what I do in my own work; it’s often a meander not a straight line.
For me, painting is also a spiritual practice. I learned along the way that images are a means to access experiences of awareness and consciousness that can only be accessed non-verbally. Creating images that are open-ended enough to allow dialogue, to allow personal meaning to develop, is a great joy.
I taught art for twenty years in the public school. If you are interested in investigating how making art can open up your world, contact me.
