Intro to Relief Printmaking: Lino Block Printing with Liz Ortiz of Mad Hare Press

Join Liz Ortiz of Mad Hare Press, for a Saturday morning of printmaking and community.

At this workshop participants will get an introduction to Relief Block Printmaking using soft linoleum blocks. Liz Ortiz will give instruction on printmaking tools, image transfer from sketch to block, carving techniques and safety, and how to print your hand carved block using acrylic ink on archival paper.

• Each participant will receive 2 blocks of soft linoleum and archival cotton paper for 2 relief prints.

• All tools necessary will be provided for use during the workshop.

• There is no drawing or printmaking experience necessary.

• Please bring images/drawings for design inspiration. (Blocks measure: 3x4”)

Bio:

Liz Ortiz of Mad Hare Press is a Fort Collins based multidisciplinary artist, who specializes in various printmaking methods and techniques. Liz holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) with concentrations in Photo Image Making and Printmaking. During her academic career she focused on intaglio, lithography and woodcut printmaking methods as well as analog black and white photography. Afterwards she transitioned to more accessible printmaking methods with relief block printing being her current chosen method. Liz uses various block surfaces but mainly uses hard linoleum (Lino) blocks to create relief prints. Each image is hand carved on one or multiple Lino blocks and hand printed on various surfaces including archival cotton paper and textiles.
