Celebrate Latinx/Hispanic Heritage Month as you experience the vibrant and intricate world of Mexican tin art, known as Hojalata!


With guidance from Liz Ortiz of Mad Hare Press, you’ll learn traditional techniques of embossing and painting on tin to create your own unique decorative pieces.

Workshop Overview:

During this 2-hour workshop, participants will:

• Introduction to Hojalata: Learn about the history and cultural significance of Mexican tin art.

• Tools and Materials: Get familiar with the essential tools and materials used in hojalata, including tin sheets, embossing tools, and vibrant paints.

• Techniques: Receive step-by-step instructions on how to cut, emboss, and paint tin to create stunning art pieces.

• Hands-On Practice: Create your own hojalata art piece, with personalized guidance from Liz Ortiz.

• Take Home Your Art: Leave the workshop with a beautiful, hand-crafted tin art piece and the skills to continue creating hojalata at home.

Workshop Highlights:

• Each participant will receive a 6x6" tin sheet and access to all necessary tools and materials.

• Simple line designs will be available to help guide your creation.

• All skill levels are welcome; no prior experience is necessary.

• Bring your creativity and any design inspirations you may have!

What to Bring:

Imagery to use for reference or an image prepared to emboss. Tin Sheet size: 6x6".

• Minimum Age Requirement: Suggested minimum age is 15 years. Sharp cutting tools will be used during this workshop and to prevent any injury it is recommended there be a confident level of hand coordination for any minor.

• Parent/Guardian Attendence: Minors 15-17 years must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Parent(s)/guardian(s) must sign liability waiver(s) for any minor and must be present for the entirety of the workshop.

• Allergen Warning: Please be aware that some materials used in this workshop may cause possible skin irritation or potential allergic reactions. Gloves and masks will be available.
